At the 2026 Regional Environmental Summit, held in Astana from April 22 to 24, the heads of state of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan signed the Declaration on Regional Cooperation in Ecology and Sustainable Development, titled “Environmental Solidarity of Central Asia.”
By adopting this Declaration, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to intensify joint efforts in shaping common regional positions and solutions within multilateral environmental processes. These include negotiations on climate change, glaciers, mountain agendas, biodiversity, chemical and waste management, combating plastic pollution, improving air quality, preventing land degradation and desertification, and advancing a unified stance for Central Asia on key international platforms.
This Declaration represents a significant step toward strengthening partnership and mutual support among Central Asian states, with the aim of ensuring ecological sustainability, inclusive economic growth, and a resilient future for present and future generations.
